    What is Project dERE?

Project dERE stands for The disABLED Electronic Resource Exchange Project Inc, a non-profit group started by Mark J. Tokarz and wife Mary Ann Wojton in June of 1993.

In our world today there are many agencies that provide help for disABLED or individuals. Though these agencies are necessary, the one area they sometimes fail to address is the person with a disABILITY is just that: a person with abilities. The disABLED need to express themselves, communicating with those able and disABLED about their general condition, challenges and triumphs. It is hard for some disABLED people to communicate with others, especially in today's hectic world where time waits for no one.

    dERE's Challenges

The first challenge dERE has decided to tackle is making communication easier via computer. dERE-Net! is a multi-node Bulletin Board System (BBS) accessible to all. dERE-Net! is available to anyone with a computer, modem, and communications software. Setup your communications software to N,8,1 and dial (614) 478-dERE. Logon to one of the most comprehensive BBSs serving the disABLED community!

With the help of Corporate America dERE is tackling another challenge. Many disABLED persons do not have access to computers. dERE is working with Corporate America to obtain and refurbish outdated computer systems and distribute to disABLED individuals.

    Get Involved!

Would you like to get involved? Contact Project dERE! We would be happy to assist you in any way we can. If you could benefit from a computer or would like to donate a computer no longer in use we would like to hear from you!

A Word from the Project Director

I started Project dERE because I have come to realize just what technology can mean to an individual with a disABILITY. As a sufferer of ATAXIA, I understand what is not to be able to run, walk, talk clearly, or express my ideas to others easily. What dERE will do for you is limited by only your imagination!
